Manager, Business Development

Green Building Certification Inc Canada (GBCI Canada) provides Canadian customer service and expert guidance to streamline and accelerate the delivery of GBCI’s sustainability programs including: LEED, GRESB, ICP, Parksmart, SITES, TRUE and WELL. With this integrated portfolio of programs, GBCI Canada enables the Canadian industry to leverage new opportunities to validate enhanced building performance and increase emissions reductions, operational savings and human health benefits.

Jointly owned by the Canada Green Building Council and Green Building Certification Inc., the Green Business Certification Inc Canada (GBCI Canada) accelerates green building market transformation and impact in Canada, which is the second largest market for LEED in the world.


As a key member of the senior management team, the Manager, Business Development is primarily responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities and growing the sales of GBCI Canada service offerings both nationally and regionally.

This is a unique and exciting new opportunity for a seasoned and motivated professional who has a track record of success creating business opportunities and relationships from scratch. The ideal candidate will be commercially astute with a proven record generating a sales pipeline with significant revenues.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Manage the strategic development and operational execution of detailed business and marketing plans that increase GBCI Canada’s revenues and market impact
  • Develop and execute a growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction
  • Drive the evaluation of market attractiveness through the creation of market models, market research, market segmentation and competitive position evaluation
  • Identify, evaluate and develop business opportunities, and drive the securing and closure on these opportunities
  • Responsible for a revenue target for each business year as a percentage of overall revenue
  • Identify and oversee new product/ service offering opportunities for the business
  • Provide high-level business development research and analysis across products lines including LEED, TRUE, Parksmart, ICP and other GBCI Canada products
  • Responsible for the appropriate positioning of all the businesses offerings in the target markets

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Identify, develop, and maintain strategic relationships and ongoing collaboration with industry stakeholders
  • Build relationships and partner with market leaders to drive marketplace engagement within new and existing businesses; and, provide direction to Chapters for the development of these relationships and opportunities in the regions
  • Represent the GBCI Canada at stakeholder meetings, conferences and other events in which to highlight programs and initiatives to expand the market for green building products and services

Sales and Business Strategy and Growth

  • Develop sales strategies, tactics, plans and margin targets, by product, medium, and by market segment
  • Actively participate in sales activities, build and manage the pipeline of sales opportunities
  • Deliver budgeted revenues and margins on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning); advanced degree is preferred
  • 10+ years related relevant experience

  • Business development and relationship management experience
  • Strategic networking/relationship skills – understands strategy, decision making process, key roles within complex organizational structures, understands sector wide issues
  • Proven ability to influence and partner with business leaders
  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to the CaGBC mission and GBCI Canada role in the marketplace
  • Excellent judgement, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated team leading, and complex project management skills
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
  • Demonstrated ability to manage programs, projects and related activities such as contracts with contractors and consultants
  • Process oriented, seeking continuous improvement
  • Effective presenter in both small and large group settings
  • Willing and able to travel
