Business Development Executive

Green Building Certification Inc Canada (GBCI Canada) provides Canadian customer service and expert guidance to streamline and accelerate the delivery of GBCI’s sustainability programs including: LEED, GRESB, ICP, Parksmart, SITES, TRUE and WELL. With this integrated portfolio of programs, GBCI Canada enables the Canadian industry to leverage new opportunities to validate enhanced building performance and increase emissions reductions, operational savings and human health benefits.

Jointly owned by the Canada Green Building Council and Green Building Certification Inc., the Green Business Certification Inc Canada (GBCI Canada) accelerates green building market transformation and impact in Canada, which is the second largest market for LEED in the world.


This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a talented and energetic professional with the passion and ability to absorb technical knowledge and contribute as a key player with this exciting new organization.

The Business Development Executive is responsible for supporting the Business Development team by focusing on positioning the market strategy to increase penetration of GBCI Canada’s suite of products and tools in the industry. This senior level role supports the growth of GBCI Canada by leveraging contacts and establishing new relationships and partnerships with prospective customers, coordinating face-to-face client meetings, conducting introductions, and preparing presentations and proposals. Using his/her knowledge of the market and competitors, the Executive will work closely with the GBCI Canada team to develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Contribute to and refine the Canadian Business Development Strategy and the GBCI Canada Business Development Plan by identifying key opportunities for new and existing products and establish a robust pipeline
  • Coordinate and contribute to the GBCI Canada market development analysis
  • Research and outreach to the market, understanding customer short and long-term needs and forecasting business opportunities
  • Staying abreast of competitor products, pricing and solutions
  • Completing sales documentation and facilitating delivery of products
  • Promoting company image and products at business related events
  • Preparing and submitting internal reports as required

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Identify, develop, and maintain strategic relationships and ongoing collaboration with industry stakeholders
  • Build relationships and partner with market leaders to drive marketplace engagement within new and existing businesses
  • Create and deliver presentations promoting initiatives and programs to increase stakeholder participation and awareness of GBCI Canada activities within the industry
  • Represent the GBCI Canada at stakeholder meetings, conferences and other events in which to highlight programs and initiatives to expand the market for green building products and services

 

Essential Qualifications

  • 5-7 years relevant experience (sales, market/business development)
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (Business, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning)
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Familiarity with the LEED rating system or green building practices preferred
  • LEED Green Associate designation, LEED AP with Specialty is an asset

  • Proven ability to influence and partner with business leaders
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Effective presenter in both small and large group settings
  • Willing and able to travel
  • Bilingualism (French/English) preferred
